MADOO
Push-pull type microplanar magnetic driver “Ortho”

The ‘Typ821’ features the completely newly developed micro planar magnetic driver “Ortho”. Planar drivers come in two types: push-pull drive and single drive. “Ortho” employs the push-pull type. It achieves balanced drive by sandwiching the diaphragm between five opposing magnets positioned front and back. These magnets drive the diaphragm with coils printed at the micrometer level, creating an ultra-thin, lightweight diaphragm.

The push-pull drive type excels at driving the diaphragm by sandwiching it between front and rear magnets, resulting in a driver with excellent response. Consequently, it delivers a highly distinctive sound character, capable of reproducing brilliant yet delicate highs and powerful bass. However, using numerous small yet powerful magnets made assembly difficult, and achieving the miniaturization and lightness required for earphone size was challenging. Consequently, it was traditionally used mainly in large products like high-end headphones. With the newly developed “Ortho,” our experienced dynamic driver engineers, through repeated trial and error, have achieved a high-quality push-pull driver suitable for earphone size.

Housing Architecture “MIAA” and High-Precision Managed Schematic Design

To enhance reliability and deliver maximum performance, we have adopted the proprietary housing architecture “MIAA: MADOO In-ear Acoustic Architecture” from previous models. All products are developed based on this architecture.
We refer to the component housing the driver as the acoustic box. This acoustic box is manufactured using a 3D printing process and incorporates a complex acoustic circuit known as a schematic design. By employing precision resin for the 3D-printed components and rigorously implementing pre-cure and post-cure hardening processes during manufacturing, we achieved the production of extremely precise parts managed at the 5μm level. This ensures strict quality control, minimizes manufacturing variations, and allows users to enjoy the intended sound quality as designed.

MADOO Typ821
Sapphire crystal combining beauty and functionality

MADOO's design concept draws inspiration from submarine and watch windows. This stems from our vision of creating earphones built to last for years. In our search for a material worthy of such windows, we discovered sapphire crystal.

Compared to glass or plastic, sapphire crystal offers superior transparency and a beautiful appearance, making it a material used in luxury watches. With a Mohs hardness of 9, it is extremely scratch-resistant and boasts high heat resistance. For the concept of headphones meant to be used for years, we considered it the optimal material due to its heat resistance and corrosion resistance—properties unattainable with glass or plastic. Functionally, the window's cavity system also controls the back pressure on the speaker units, enabling a structure that maximizes their performance.

Positioned as a second-generation evolution of existing models, the ‘Typ821’ features a completely redesigned window. True to its 800 Series designation, it prominently incorporates eight screws, creating a design that more vividly evokes the original concept of a submarine window and establishes a new face for MADOO.

MADOO Typ821
High-rigidity housing

The Typ821 employs titanium as its housing material, a metal notoriously difficult to machine. Titanium is exceptionally rigid yet relatively lightweight, and highly biocompatible. While making it an ideal material for earphones, it is also known for being extremely challenging to process.

The housing was designed by engineers with deep expertise in metalworking, having handled cutting tools for high-end Swiss and Japanese watches and German automobiles. It is manufactured by machining a solid titanium block using powerful, high-precision multi-axis CNC machines.

Furthermore, MADOO holds the design philosophy that housing rigidity is essential to maximize the potential of the driver unit and directly impacts sound quality. Therefore, MADOO implemented uncompromising finishes for sound quality, such as sandblasting the housing surface to impart hardness and designing the shell thickness to be significantly greater than that of typical earphones.

It possesses exceptionally high rigidity, even among previous MADOO models, making it a housing that can maximize the potential of the “Ortho”.

MADOO
Optimized shape derived from ear impressions of 300 people

International standards primarily use Western ear shapes as the base design, but these are significantly larger compared to Asian ears, often leading to fitting issues. Meanwhile, the main market for premium earphones is centered in Asia, including Japan, China, and South Korea. Focusing on this, we collected ear impressions from approximately 300 men across these regions over three years, using this data to derive the optimal shape. For the ‘Typ821’, we further refined the housing shape by incorporating ear impressions from 100 additional individuals over one year. This resulted in a housing that achieves both a superior fit and enhanced design aesthetics. Additionally, the stem retains the elliptical shape from previous models. Since most human ears are elliptical, this design ensures a natural fit within the ear canal while faithfully conveying MADOO's sound design without loss.

MADOO cable
MADOO cable

The earphone cable employs a 4-core cable (2 cores × 2) made of silver-coated copper wire from our sister brand, Acoustune.

This cable, designed to minimize sound quality loss, allows the earphones to perform at their full potential. The connector section utilizes the new high-fidelity, high-reliability IEM connector “Pentaconn Ear” designed and manufactured by Nippon Dicks Co., Ltd. Compared to conventional MMCX connectors, the plug and socket make tighter contact, resulting in superior conductivity. It also achieves both easy attachment/detachment and robustness.

This product comes standard with two cables: the “MRC011” featuring a 3.5mm Unbalanced L-shaped plug and the “MRC023” featuring a 4.4mm Balanced L-shaped plug.
